Configure your email client
Your client must be able to receive messages from a POP3 server. Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express do, and so do Netscape, Opera, Thuderbird and Ximian evolution.
You may need to provide the following information:
- Your Name - This is how your name looks in human terms, like Fred Bloggs
- email address - This is the address that messages you send will come from. With cyberSPACEMAN mail you can choose anything before the '@' and put your domain name afer it. Your domain name is the part of your web address after the 'www.'. So if your web address is www.theshoeshop.co.uk, you could specify joe@theshoeshop.co.uk and thats what your mail recipients would see.
- reply-to address - This is optional - if you want people to reply to a different address to the one you specified as yours (above), specify it here. You may want your messages to come from joe@theshoeshop.co.uk, but replies to come back to sales@theshoeshop.co.uk.
- POP3 (Incoming Message) server - Specify your mail server here. It will have the same address as your website, except that instead of 'www.', it will begin with 'mail.'. For example mail.theshoeshop.co.uk.
- User Name & Password - We will provide these when your account has been set up.
- Remember Password - It is usually safe to do this, and you will be glad you did!
- SMTP Server (Outgoing Messages) - We do not provide an SMTP server as this exposes us to hackers. Your ISP will provide one though, so use theirs - check the account details they sent you, there will be a server name (there may be an SMTP username and password - their instructions on setting up your mail client to access the mailbox they have provided you will give details).
